Adam and Ethan caught a one way ride to Virginia yesterday, with a friend named Cooper going back to his Army base. Now they are in who-knows-where Virginia, and who knows where they'll be tomorrow.

To make it a little more interesting, Ethan has decided (in an act Adam describes as "stu-chotic") not to speak. He explained his silence in a very informally jotted letter the night before he left, in which he stated, "I am not talking for an array of reasons, but it basically stems from our overuse of words in communication." He goes on to say, "I was trying to say something as well. I'm silent, not stupid, Dummy. This is a good learning experience. Our thoughts are governed by the outlet we use to express them."

I have a feeling these two are in for quite the TRIP!

  1. If "our thoughts are governed by the outlet we use to express them", then if Evan remains silent are his thoughts in a state of anarchy?

    Just wondering.

  2. Wasn't there a movie where a couple long hair lads on a mission were traveling around and one of them wouldn't speak? Something about angels of death with hockey sticks or something. But maybe Ethan's self imposed speech deprivation is purely original. Good luck and stay safe.

  3. Ethan stopped talking because he was sick of the way people use their words, but yes...he is a big fan of Jay and Silent Bob, maybe that's where the idea came from.
O, and to Cynthia from Ethan:
No. Anarchy is the lack of order; refraining from speech simply allowed him to re-order his thoughts. An artist may paint a mural that is beautiful beyond words in much the same way a poet can write prose that invokes feelings beyond what is seen. Words can transcend their typical meaning, but only when used correctly; sadly most of us slaughter the beauty of language on a daily basis.

  4. I hope Ethan will keep using his words. They are a delight to read.
